I know I’ve been really lazy maintaining this little blog of mine, but you know what, this week feels like the week to get back on the saddle, so to speak. At least I’m going to try really hard. Not writing anything substantial for weeks doesn’t mean I stop thinking about stuff, kinky and otherwise. So I do have a few subjects up my sleeve. As busy or lazy or both that I get, I do still eat, so at least writing Foodporn Mondays have been a breeze. So here are items on last week’s menu.
A happy new habit from my January Whole30 ordeal was fasting and I had made an effort to continue doing it at least most of the week, which means on days I do not work out, I would skip breakfast. Even on morning workout days, I try to keep it healthy, in my case that is something low on sugar and high-ish on fat. Here we have high-fat Greek yoghurt, low-sugar muesli, a small banana and some blueberries. Not the most ideal, but I had a busy morning.
I love Sichuan cuisine, their unique brand of spicyness make my tongue tingle and go numb and so so delicious. So I got a little excited when I saw a new instand noodle product at the Asian supermarket. Broad noodles are something special and quite a rare treat in Finland, since no one that I know makes them. They are basically rice noodles, but they have this bounciness to them and they usually would not go all mushy. For an instant noodle, this tasted pretty legit, especially the ultra spicy chili sauce, all that was missing was some spicy beef.
With the beef in mind, and to celebrate Friday, I got myself some steak, fried it up in butter and garlic and paired it with another bag of instant broad noodles I have left. Just as I thought, it was a match made in heaven.
Sunday is usually the day of the week I would do a long workout, last week I did an 1000 calorie challenge that took me almost 1.5 hours. Naturally, I was starving afterwards, so I made a huge Sunday breakfast/brunch for myself: two fried eggs, some fried mushrooms, an avocado bake with tomatoes and cheese and of course, some crispy bacon.
Sunday was crazy busy. In addition to a long workout, I also did two meal preps, one dish for dinner and one dish for lunch. I made beef stew for dinners as it is quite versatile. Cos it can be eaten as is, or be paired with rice or noodles or some greens. In the stew, I found a nice ossobuco cut. For veggies I added potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions and celery. The broth base is chicken, for taste I added mirin, sake and soy sauce and a generous amount of ginger paste. So it was an Asian style stew and it tastes pretty darn good. 😛
For my lunch meal prep, I attempted to make paella for the first time. Paella is one of my all time favorite dishes, but I could not find rice for paella, so I just used the whole grain which gets way too mushy for my taste. The taste is pretty good though for the first attempt, and it is almost luxurious to have paella for lunch. 😀 I paired it with some fried green beans and of course wedges of lemon.
